The POW experience of WWII was made bearable for many young men through the arts. In order to survive their incarceration, they looked within themselves and unearthed unknown creativity, which in turn saved them from facing the wall.

With the war over, where next for the airmen of the RAF?  A bold few dared to believe their future might lie with another form of air transportation, the helicopter. Would rotary wings ever propel fighting machines? A handful staked their careers and lives on the unfashionable and experimental whirring rotors. This is one of their stories.
